Apple Chutney

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Peel, core, and dice the apples. Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic.
  2. Cook the chutney: In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients—apples, onion, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, raisins, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  3. Simmer: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 45 minutes or until the apples have softened and the chutney has thickened.
  4. Cool and store: Remove the chutney from heat and let it cool slightly. Transfer to sterilized jars and seal. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or process in a water bath for longer storage.
