Description

These Caprese skewers combine the classic Italian salad’s key ingredients into a convenient, bite-sized format. Each skewer features ripe cherry tomatoes, fresh basil leaves, and mini mozzarella balls, all drizzled with a rich balsamic glaze. The result is a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors that are refreshing and satisfying. They make for an attractive addition to any appetizer platter or as a standalone snack for gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1 lb mini mozzarella balls (bocconcini)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Skewers or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Rinse the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Assemble the skewers: On each skewer or toothpick, thread one cherry tomato, followed by a basil leaf, and then a mini mozzarella ball. Repeat this pattern until the skewer is filled, leaving some space at each end for handling.
  3. Season: Arrange the assembled skewers on a serving platter. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Serve: Serve immediately as a refreshing appetizer, or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Storage: Leftover skewers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. For best quality, consume them within 24 hours.
  • Customization: Feel free to add other ingredients such as prosciutto, olives, or different types of cheese for variety. You can also use larger skewers and create a more substantial appetizer by adding additional layers.
  • Make Ahead: These skewers can be prepared a few hours in advance. Just wait to drizzle with balsamic glaze until serving to prevent the basil from wilting.
  • Serving Suggestion: Pair with crusty bread or serve alongside a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
