Description
Mulled wine is a traditional winter drink, simmered with spices, fruits, and a touch of sweetness. It’s a great way to warm up during the colder months and can be easily scaled for larger gatherings. The delightful aroma fills your home, making it the perfect holiday beverage.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle red wine (750ml)
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1/4 cup brandy (optional)
- 1/4 cup sugar (or honey, to taste)
- 3-4 whole cloves
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise (optional)
- Fresh cranberries for garnish
Instructions
- Combine ingredients: In a large saucepan, combine the red wine, orange and lemon slices, brandy (if using), sugar, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
- Heat the mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and warm gently until steaming. Do not let it boil, as this will cook off the alcohol and alter the flavors.
- Simmer and infuse: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 20-30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Stir occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves.
- Serve: Strain the mulled wine into heatproof mugs, discarding the spices and fruit. Garnish with fresh cranberries and an extra slice of orange or lemon for a festive touch.
