Description

Mulled wine is a traditional winter drink, simmered with spices, fruits, and a touch of sweetness. It’s a great way to warm up during the colder months and can be easily scaled for larger gatherings. The delightful aroma fills your home, making it the perfect holiday beverage.

Gluhwein

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine (750ml)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (or honey, to taste)
  • 3-4 whole cloves
  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise (optional)
  • Fresh cranberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients: In a large saucepan, combine the red wine, orange and lemon slices, brandy (if using), sugar, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
  2. Heat the mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and warm gently until steaming. Do not let it boil, as this will cook off the alcohol and alter the flavors.
  3. Simmer and infuse: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 20-30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Stir occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves.
  4. Serve: Strain the mulled wine into heatproof mugs, discarding the spices and fruit. Garnish with fresh cranberries and an extra slice of orange or lemon for a festive touch.
