Swedish Meatballs recipe

 Ingredients:

– 1 pound ground beef

– 1/2 pound ground pork

– 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

– 1/4 cup milk

– 1 egg

– 1 small onion, finely chopped

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 teaspoon ground allspice

– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

– Salt and pepper, to taste

– 2 tablespoons butter

– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

– 2 cups beef broth

– 1/2 cup heavy cream

– Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

 Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Mix the meatball ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground allspice, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

3. Form the meatballs: Roll the meat mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving a little space between each meatball.

4. Bake the meatballs: Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake the meatballs for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown.

5. Make the gravy: While the meatballs are baking, prepare the gravy. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour to create a roux. Cook the roux, stirring constantly, for about 2 minutes or until it turns golden brown.

6. Add broth and cream: Gradually whisk in the beef broth, making sure to break up any lumps. Allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes until it thickens slightly. Then, stir in the heavy cream and continue to simmer for another 2-3 minutes.

7. Combine meatballs and gravy: Once the meatballs are done baking, transfer them to the skillet with the gravy. Gently toss the meatballs in the gravy until they are well coated.

8. Serve: Serve the Swedish meatballs hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley if desired. They can be served over mashed potatoes, noodles, or on their own as an appetizer.
